Brazil Iron to invest US$ 5.7 billion in Bahia in green iron project.

In an exclusive interview with Bahia Econômica, Emerson Souza, Vice President of Institutional Relations at Brazil Iron Limited, spoke about the company’s US$ 5.7 billion investment in Bahia for the development of the Ferro Verde Project. According to Emerson, the company’s expectations are extremely positive.

“Bahia is a blessed land, and we at Brazil Iron have the privilege of being able to make use of it. That’s what we’re doing in the region of Piatã and Jussiape—working with iron of a specific, higher, and better quality than usual. Only 3% of the world’s iron ore has the quality of Bahian iron ore, so our expectations are the best possible,” explained Emerson during the opening of Exposibram Bahia 2025, a four-day event dedicated to presenting and discussing investments and projects related to mining in Brazil and Bahia. The project is expected to generate more than 55,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Considered an essential input for transforming the global steel industry, Ferro Verde involves the production of Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI). The technology allows for the replacement of polluting coal furnaces with electric models capable of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 99%. The use of high-quality iron ore and 100% renewable energy places the project at the forefront of the sector’s energy transition.
